Koppenberg Makes Way For New Talent

Lawyers in Belgium are preparing for a bumper payout after the route for the 2007 Tour Of Flanders was released to the world cycling press at a less-than-lavish launch in Ninove. The big news is the exclusion of the notorious Koppenberg which has already led to a spate of acrimonious finger-pointing exchanges.

When the race organizers projected the 2007 route onto the portacabin wall the

audible gasps were followed by the Koppenberg herself leaving her seat in obvious disgust at her snub. In what only be described as a flounce, we caught up with the visibly shaken Koppenberg a few minutes later. She told us "I can't believe I've been overlooked. Maybe the Muur grabs the headlines because she comes in the finale but the first part of the bergs is all about me. I've worked hard on my appearance over the last few years and now I've been dumped by this Kortekeer upstart. I mean, she's paved and with an average gradient of 6.6%. Cheap tart!"
The race organizers have been quick to dispel any talk of favoritism "It's only fair we give the younger Bergs a fair crack of the whip. The Koppenberg, bless 'er, has been a fixture for many years but we just felt a new injection of something new would spice things up a bit. This by no mean is the end of the Koppenberg, I'm sure we'll see her very soon back in the race route but we're disappointed to hear her talking about lawyers. There's no need to drag us through the courts. It should be an amicable, temporary split. Certainly, there's no animosity on our behalf."

One person happy to see the omission of this Flemish cobbled atrocity was Danish ex-pro Jesper Skibby who felt the full force of the Koppenbergs fury after falling on her cobbles and becoming wedged under a official race vehicle "She's always been an awkward individual, a bit unstable really capable of having these violent outbursts. The race can't really tolerate prima donnas like her anymore. If the Kortekeer seems to be more level headed then its only correct the race should give her a try"
Have you ever been in the dog house with the Koppenburg or fallen prey to her alluring but ultimately lethal charms? If you have, feel free to use the new space-age technology currently being beta tested by secretsofthepeloton.com called 'electronic mail': I fell off and walked :(
